Iowa football lands 2026 DB Darion Jones, adds to recruiting class

Iowa football added another reason to celebrate the 4th of July holiday.

The Hawkeyes landed a commitment from Darion Jones. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound defensive back announced his pledge to Iowa over fellow finalists Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota and Nebraska.

Signs were pointing in the Hawkeyes’ direction leading up to decision day, and Jones made sure the prognosticators were right.

A product of Omaha North in Nebraska, Jones registered 30 tackles and eight interceptions a season ago. Jones also tallied 776 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns offensively and had a pair of punt return and kick returns for scores with the Vikings a season ago.

Jones is a three-star commit according to 247Sports, Rivals and On3. 247Sports rates Jones as the nation’s No. 34 cornerback and the No. 2 player from Nebraska. According to Rivals, Jones is the No. 36 corner in the 2026 class. Meanwhile, On3 rates Jones as the country’s 58th corner.

Jones is now the 14th commit in the 2026 cycle for the Hawkeyes and he joins Marcello Vitti and Ronnie Hill as defensive back pledges in the class.

The Hawkeyes also have commitments from preferred walk-on defensive backs Noah Daniel and Eli Robbins in their 2026 recruiting class.
