Legendary coach gives telling statement on Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes football program

The Colorado Buffaloes won just one game a few years back before deciding to go on an extensive head coaching search.

Somehow, that ended with Deion Sanders coming over from Jackson State to become the program’s new head coach.

While Colorado has yet to win a conference title and has just a 13-12 record in the first two years, the buzz is real around the program in Boulder.

Legendary coach Urban Meyer spoke in detail about the program and what Sanders has done during a recent episode of the “Triple Option” show.

“I got to go backstage and watched them practice. I see the watches and the cars and all of the flash – it’s just not me. But when I saw what went on behind the scenes, there’s a culture there. He’s tough on them, man. He’s demanding of that team. That’s what blew my mind,” Meyer said.

Meyer was left impressed by the culture that Sanders has brought to the fold: “There’s no waste of time. They went out to work and they left. During those two hours, it was go time. I’ve been to other teams’ practices where I thought they’re wasting time.”

Meyer knows about a winning culture. He was the head coach at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State before taking a quick NFL stop with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He also has three FBS national titles, so such strong comments from Meter show just how good Coach Prime has done so far in Boulder.

This next season will be very pivotal, especially with stars such as Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter off to the NFL.
