Breaking down Lance Heard playing left tackle in SEC games

Junior Lance Heard enters his second season at Tennessee in 2025 after transferring from LSU.

The 6-foot-6, 330-pound offensive lineman has appeared in 23 games during his collegiate career, 12 at LSU and 11 with the Vols, including 12 starts.

Ahead of Tennessee’s season opener versus Syracuse on Aug. 30, Vols Wire looks at Heard’s production in SEC games at left tackle in 2024.

Heard underwent a minor knee procedure last summer ahead of the 2024 season. After returning in September, he also dealt with an ankle sprain. Heard did not play in Tennessee’s SEC-opening win at Oklahoma in Week 4.

After an open date in Week 5, he returned in Week 6 at Arkansas and played all 64 offensive snaps.

In his first SEC home game at Neyland Stadium, Heard played all 69 offensive snaps and allowed one pressure against Florida. Tennessee defeated the Gators for a second consecutive time at home.

In Tennessee’s other second straight win over a SEC rival at Neyland Stadium, he played left tackle in all 71 offensive plays and did not allow a sack against Alabama.

Heard played all 82 snaps at left tackle in Tennessee’s win versus Kentucky in Week 10, recording 477 yards of total offense.

In Tennessee’s final home SEC contest at Neyland Stadium, he did not allow a pressure against Mississippi State. Tennessee’s offense produced 240 rushing yards and 452 total yards against the Bulldogs.

Heard did not allow a sack or quarterback hit in all 72 snaps during a, 31-17, loss at Georgia.

During the Vols’ regular-season finale at Vanderbilt, he played all 73 snaps at left tackle. Tennessee rushed for a SEC season-high 281 yards and 538 total yards of offense to clinch a berth in a 12-team College…
