The Georgia Bulldogs have seen a recruiting streak cool off recently, and they just recently missed out on another recruit. Five-star cornerback Chauncey Kennon announced he’s committing to play for the Florida State Seminoles over the Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers.
Kennon is a five-star cornerback from the class of 2026. He stands at 6-foot-1, weighs 175 pounds, and plays high school football and participates in track and field for Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida. Kennon is the No. 2 cornerback and No. 27 prospect in the nation. He is also the No. 4 recruit in Florida.
Georgia and Florida State have competed for several recruits in the past. Georgia flipped 2025 four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley from Florida State, but Florida State flipped four-star running back Ousmane Kromah from Georgia on the first day of the early signing period last year.
Kennon becomes Florida State’s highest rated recruit in the class of 2026, according to 247Sports. It’s a huge win for the Seminoles, who have been on a tear in the recruiting cycle recently. Since June 15th, they’ve earned a commitment from 12 players. FSU’s class now ranks 11th in the nation and 3rd in the ACC.
It’s a big missed opportunity for Georgia. Kennon would’ve been tied with quarterback Jared Curtis for Georgia’s highest recruit, and Kennon’s commitment could’ve pushed Georgia from the second-best to the best recruiting class in the nation. In terms of five-star recruits, Georgia has just one commit, lagging behind Alabama’s four, Oregon’s three, and Ohio State and Texas’ two.
Regardless, Georgia’s done well in this class, especially in the secondary. Georgia has already received commitments from four-star cornerbacks Justice Fitzpatrick (No. 8 among cornerbacks, according to 247Sports), Caden Harris (No. 9) and Chace Calicut (No. 15). They’ve also…
