Clemson’s biggest archvillain for 2025 revealed, and it’s not who you’d think

The Clemson Tigers have aims on the ACC title again. They also plan to contend for a national title, at the very least making a run in the College Football Playoff. What might stand in their way? Which teams/players might end up playing the role of villain in Clemson’s quest for college football immortality?

According to ESPN insider David Hale, it’s LaNorris Sellers. That’s right, the biggest potential villain for the Tigers in 2025 is the crosstown QB. Not only that, but Hale believes it’s pretty obvious after a shocking upset loss at the hands of the Gamecocks just last season.

“The Tigers watched the South Carolina quarterback dodge defenders, break tackles and keep one play after another alive last season in a stunning Gamecocks win that nearly derailed Clemson’s season,” Hale said. “Clemson will be looking for revenge, of course, but new defensive coordinator Tom Allen will be more focused on finding answers for the elusive Sellers. There are lofty expectations at Clemson this season, and the Tigers don’t necessarily need a win over South Carolina to achieve them, but nobody will sleep soundly in the state if the 2025 defense coughs up another win to its biggest rival.”

While a loss to in-state rivals isn’t likely to keep Clemson from having a chance to win the ACC or out of the College Football Playoff, it is something they desperately want to avoid after last season. And with how good Sellers is and how frustrating he can be to defend, maybe it’s not such a surprise that this was the pick for Clemson’s biggest villain.
