Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart is bringing three players with him to SEC media days. This year, he decided to bring junior quarterback Gunner Stockton as one of the three players in 2025’s SEC media days.
It’s a sign of major confidence in the young quarterback. Stockton has just two games of college experience under his belt, and in his first game (the 2024 SEC championship) he came in as relief once Carson Beck went down with an elbow injury.
It all but proves Stockton will enter the season as the starter for Georgia in 2025. Looking at last year’s players at SEC media days, 11 SEC teams (Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas) brought a quarterback. Each quarterback the attended the event ended up being the starter entering the season, although Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold and Mississippi State’s Blake Shapen ended up losing the starting job later in the season.
Stockton is one of the most interesting players going to SEC media days. It could be said that Stockton has more pressure on him than any other quarterback in the conference. Several news outlets, such as 247Sports and ESPN, rank Stockton lowly due to his lack of experience.
However, despite having four new linemen protecting him, a defense that lost 75% of its pass rush production, and a running game that ranked second to last in the SEC in yards per game last year, Stockton is expected to keep Georgia in contention to win the SEC.
Stockton definitely has the confidence to do it. When Paul Finebaum expressed major concerns with Stockton, Smart implied that Stockton will use that as bulletin board material. With Stockton’s inclusion in SEC media days, Kirby Smart proves he has confidence in Stockton too.
Stockton will attend the event along with Georgia linebacker CJ Allen and cornerback Daylen Everette.
