Jordan Clay chooses Baylor over Oklahoma, Colorado

Jordan Clay turned down the opportunity to play for two high-profile out-of-state programs; opting instead to stay close to home.

Clay, a four-star senior wide receiver from San Antonio (Texas) Madison, committed on Friday afternoon to play for Baylor University. He chose the Bears over his other two finalists, Colorado and Oklahoma.

“I’m not big on numbers or logos of the school,” Clay said in an interview with Rivals. “My mom and I have three things – culture, coaches and the offensive fit for me. Baylor fits all of that.”

In his past two seasons, Clay (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) has averaged more than 20 yards per reception while amassing more than 1,700 yards and 16 TDs – 11 of those coming in his sophomore season. As a freshman in 2022, he was named the District 28-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year after catching 25 passes for 604 yards and eight TDs.

He is ranked as the No. 13 wide receiver, the No. 14 prospect in Texas and the No. 94 prospect in the nation by Rivals.

In a story written by The Sporting News recruiting expert Andrew Nemec, Clay and four-star defensive lineman Jamarion Carlton of Temple (Texas) will make up the highest-rated recruiting duo committed to Baylor since 2014, when the Bears landed receivers KD Cannon and Davion Hall. Carlton is rated the No. 44 overall prospect nationally by Rivals.

With those commits, Baylor has now cracked the top 30 in the Rivals team recruiting rankings, as the Bears are now at No. 29. Baylor now has 16 commitments.

Clay made his announcement Friday on his 18th birthday.
