2025 will mark the fifth season for Tennessee under head coach Josh Heupel.
The Vols will kick off their 2025 football season Saturday against Syracuse. The nonconference matchup will be contested at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia (noon EDT, ABC).
Ahead of Saturday’s season opener, Heupel received a contract extension from Tennessee through Jan. 2030.
“The revival of our football program under Josh’s leadership has made everyone in Big Orange country proud to be a Vol,” Tennessee vice chancellor and director of athletics Danny White said. “Josh has brought Tennessee football back to its rightful place among the nation’s elite programs, and he and his staff have fostered a positive culture within the team. Our commitment to supporting Josh and his staff remains strong and unwavering.”
Heupel guided the Vols to a 37–15 (20–12 SEC) record, one College Football Playoff appearance and two bowl wins in four seasons.
