Ohio State football’s archvillain identified by ESPN

It won’t be the college football offseason much longer, but in the meantime, several national and local media outlets are giving us content centered around lists and rankings. Heck, we’re no different, and ESPN certainly isn’t either.

The “worldwide leader” took a stab at naming an archvillain for every college football team in its top 25, and some of them are interesting. We’ll let you absorb the article and list on your own, but we are, of course, interested in who ESPN named as Ohio State football’s villains.

There are a few ways the sports media mogul could have gone here, but it decided to highlight Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore as the Buckeyes’ archvillain. I mean, why not pick the guy that leads the program that is your arch rival, no?

Here’s what ESPN — and Adam Rittenberg in particular — has to say about Sherrone Moore’s grip on Ohio State:

“Michigan coach Sherrone Moore has become a problem for the Buckeyes. He might not wear the villain outfit quite as well as predecessor Jim Harbaugh did, but Moore’s rise in coaching — as Wolverines offensive line coach, offensive coordinator and now head coach — has coincided with Ohio State’s longest losing streak (four games) to its archrival since 1991. Moore served as acting head coach during Harbaugh’s Big Ten-imposed suspension in 2023, as Michigan punched its ticket to the Big Ten championship game. He then earned the permanent role and pulled off one of the more stunning upsets in the history of The Game in November in Columbus. The story of Moore’s coaching career at Michigan is really just beginning, but he has already demonstrated his ability to win the biggest games.”
