LSU football misses on elite defensive end, losing to Baylor

LSU’s luck on the recruiting trail didn’t continue late Thursday as top-50 2026 edge Jamarion Carlton committed to Baylor.

The Temple, TX native decided to stay in his home state and play for the Bears. Carlton grew up a half hour from Waco and will suit up for head coach Dave Aranda following his senior year of high school.

247Sports ranks the four-star player No. 3 at his position, No. 4 out of Texas, and No. 33 overall. He named LSU, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Texas to his top four and selected the Bears in an announcement from his high school’s gym.

LSU came in heavy early on during Carlton’s recruitment process but fell off down the stretch. He never made a visit to Baton Rouge and concentrated more on suitor in his home state.

The Tigers added to their haul of defensive line prospects on Thursday. They gained commitments from Louisiana’s top prospect in Lamar Brown, along with edge DeAnthony Lafayette. Combined with Trenton Henderson and Richard Anderson, both five-stars, LSU has four defensive linemen in its 2026 class.
