The Oklahoma Sooners lost a pair of playmakers to the transfer portal after the 2024 season. Bauer Sharp, who was arguably the Sooners best offensive player in 2024 and Nic Anderson, who was a star in 2023, but couldn’t get on the field in 2024 due to injuries.
Now in Baton Rouge, the two former Sooners have impressed their new quarterback. Speaking at SEC media days, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier had high praise for the new Tigers.
“Both of those guys are unbelievable players,” Nussmeier said. “So I’ll say for one, Bauer has kind of added another level of backbone to our offense, and that type of mindset he has. He’s ready to take somebody’s face off. And he can make plays and he’s electric with the ball in his hand.”
For all of the ways that the Sooners overextended Sharp last year, he had some good moments. He led the Sooners with 42 receptions and 324. However, Oklahoma’s offense struggled throughout the season without its top five wide receivers, and the offensive line’s inability to hold up in pass protection further overextended Sharp’s role. Now playing on an LSU squad that is deep at wide receiver and has an experienced quarterback leading the way.
Anderson, a former four-star prospect in the 2022 class looked destined for Oklahoma stardom after a breakout 2023 season. But a hamstring injury kept him off the field for all but a few plays before he reaggravated the injury. Now with a fresh start, Anderson stood out to Nussmeier this offseason.
“Nic, on the other hand, is around the same way. He’s very electric, very, very good football player, and makes plays on the ball in the air that are unbelievable. For him and me it’s about getting the chemistry down and the timing and getting on the same page on things. And that’s what the summer has been for and spring ball.
