Michigan football has added a new punter to the team, two days before its first practice of fall camp and 33 days before the 2025 season opener against New Mexico.
Hunter Robertson, a former Division II punter at Clarion (Pennsylvania Western University), announced Sunday, July 27, he is joining the Wolverines for the 2025 season. This comes after reportedly adding Luke Bauer (Missouri) during the spring transfer window following the spring game on April 20 a few months back, however Bauer’s social media does not indicate he’s on the team, he does not appear in the university directory and the fall roster has not yet been updated.
Robertson is a Huntington Woods (Berkley High School) native.
In 2024, Robertson punted 51 times for an average of 43.2 yards — Tommy Doman punted 49 times and averaged 42.9 last season at U-M — which included 15 punts of 50 yards or more and 17 punts that pinned the opposition inside its 20-yard line.
His longest punt was 70 yards. He also has experience handling kickoffs with 89 across 22 games. Of those, 23 were taken for touchbacks and three resulted in penalties going out of bounds.
Robertson adds some competition for last year’s backup, Hudson Hollenbeck, however last week at Big Ten media days, coach Sherrone Moore said Hollenbeck was the front-runner after summer.
