Illinois football lands four-star Class of 2027 QB from Utah

The Illinois football team captured its first Class of 2027 recruit on Monday, a four-star quarterback.

Kamden Lopati, a highly-touted QB1 at Salt Lake City West High School, announced his commitment to the Fighting Illini. He is the No. 17 ranked QB in the class of 2027 according to 247Sports, and the No. 194 prospect overall.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback had offers from several major programs, including Oregon, Washington, Utah, Purdue, Arizona, Arkansas and Iowa State.

As a sophomore, Lopati was 171 of 256 passing (66.8%) for for 3,050 yards, 25 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 647 yards (9.4 ypc) and three touchdowns.

“It’s been great. They just always bringing good energy, and that’s really what I’m looking for,” Lopati told 247Sports. “Coach Art (Sitkowski, Illini co-quarterbacks coach) is young. He played at Illinois. Really his energy is just a different level of coaching and what I’m trying to be as a person.”

Lopati is the highest-ranked quarterback recruited by Illinois in coach Bret Bielema’s tenure in Champaign.
