One of the top signal callers in the 2027 recruiting class has revealed his commitment date, and Texas A&M is at the top of his list, as four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson has been the favorite to land with the Aggies over the last month, and will reportedly announce his decison on Saturday, August 2nd between Tennessee, Florida State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Texas A&M.
After receiving a prediction from Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman to land with Texas A&M, Johnson’s reported close relationship with Aggie OC Collin Klein, combined with the program’s recruiting pipeline in Georgia, has played a significant role in gaining ground with the standout athlete. On film, Johnson is still developing in the pocket, needing to be more fluid and mobile against pressure, but is by far one of the top passers among the rest of the 2027 QBs.
Ahead of his junior season at Lowndes High School, Johnson made his mark during his 2024 sophomore season after throwing for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, paired with over 300 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Texas A&M’s future at quarterback should include current starter Marcel Reed after the 2025 season, while redshirt freshman Miles O’Neill and 2026 4-star commit Helaman Casuga will likely be the next two names on the 2026 depth chart.
According to Rivals, Johnson is currently positioned as the 29th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the 5th-ranked quarterback, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Georgia.
