James Franklin has some mighty high expectations to live up to amongst Penn State fans and the rest of the college football world, with many believing that the current team that he is fielding in Happy Valley is the best one he has put together in what is about to be his 12th season as the school’s head coach.
But those analysts and fans aren’t the only ones believing in an eventual national championship this year, even the opposition believes that the Nittany Lions are viewing the 2025 season as an “all or nothing” kind of ordeal.
“I think they’re probably ‘natty or bust’ this year. That’s how they’re feeling,” said Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles to Sports Illustrated’s Mark Wogenrich at the Big 10 Media Days.
For a bitter rival, Styles’ had some inspiring remarks about Franklin’s group and believes that the team will be in the championship picture.
“They’ve got a lot of guys who came back for their last year. Drew Allar, the two running backs, Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, plus they got a few guys on defense that are in their last year as well, so I know that they’re going to be a great team,” the championship-winning defender said.
Plus, the Nittany Lions snagging Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles should definitely help their quest for a title, and Styles is very aware of that as well.
“Coach Knowles is a great coach. I’d say he’s a very smart, intuitive thinker,” said Styles. “He’s got so many great ideas with the way he thinks about different ways to play defense, whether it’s disguises or different blitzes and stuff like that. He’s like a perfectionist, but he understands you’re not going to be perfect, if that makes sense.”
The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions will clash on November 1 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.
