In April, as A-Day neared, Germie Bernard shared a bold claim about Alabama football’s wide receiver room. When asked if the Crimson Tide had the best receiver room in college football, Bernard unflinchingly said “no doubt.”
“Most definitely,” he added.
As Bernard left Alabama’s second fall practice ahead of the Crimson Tide’s season opener against Florida State on Aug. 30, he said the same thing about the room his receivers face every single day.
“I honestly think we have the best defensive back room in the country,” Bernard said. “So going up against the best every single day, you have to find new ways to get open, new schemes. I mean, it’s been great.”
Both Alabama’s defensive backs and wide receivers are rooms that are “trying to get each other better,” Bernard said. And when asked about who he thinks of specifically when he says that, Bernard grinned.
“Domani,” Bernard said. “I love going against Domani.”
Domani Jackson, going into his senior season, had 52 tackles, two tackles for loss, seven pass break-ups and two interceptions last season. Per Pro Football Focus, Jackson allowed 27 receptions on 50 targets for 311 receiving yards. He is credited for allowing one touchdown.
“(Jackson is) just very handsy, very physical,” Bernard said. “He’s smart. He’s a veteran, so he knows what to do. He knows what leverage to take away different things, how I’m lined up. I really have to think when I go against him.”
What Germie Bernard said about Dijon Lee
When asked about five-star freshman cornerback Dijon Lee, Bernard emphasized Lee is a “young corner,” but quickly raved about his “great ability.”
“He’s very lengthy, has long arms so he can reach you, touch you at the line,” Bernard said. “So just giving him little tips and things that I see. I’ve learned a lot from going against a lot of great DBs.”
