Wisconsin wide receiver Vinny Anthony II is due for a big year in the offense’s first year under coordinator Jeff Grimes. Anthony had a breakout season last year, catching 39 receptions for 672 yards and four touchdowns. He also averaged 17.2 yards per catch.
The standout receiver was one of the few bright spots of the Badgers’ offense last season. His best games came against good teams like Nebraska, Penn State, and USC. He proved to be a true deep threat for Wisconsin in multiple games, most notably the USC game, where he connected on an explosive 63-yard touchdown.
Expect to see Anthony utilized in non-deep threat designed plays as well, including jet sweeps, end arounds, and slants up the middle. Those kinds of routes are staples in Grimes’ offense and will be important for the Badgers if they hope to improve on that side of the football.
Anthony isn’t alone in the wide receiver room, with returning standout Trech Kekahuna and transfer Jayden Ballard expected to be key contributors. Overall, expect a big year for the senior receiver who produced last season, even with subpar quarterback play.
