Notre Dame backed for big 2025 season behind ‘dynamic’ offense

Notre Dame football enters the 2025 college football season ranked No. 5 in the Preseason Coaches’ Top 25 after finishing 2024 with a 14-2 record and a national championship loss to Ohio State. One expert has predicted the Fighting Irish will run the table on a perfect season and win the national title in 2025, highlighting their “dynamic” offense as a key strength.

The Fighting Irish will likely have CJ Carr under center this season after Riley Leonard moved on to the NFL. When it comes to Carr, can he meet the national title expectations surrounding Notre Dame?

College football reporter Andy Staples believes the answer is yes. During an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Wednesday, Staples was asked if Notre Dame could go undefeated in the regular season and win the national championship, and he thinks it’s possible.

“We don’t know anything, but Notre Dame feels like one of the sure things, which is interesting because they are breaking in a new starting quarterback, and we don’t really know how that’s going to look,” Staples told Patrick. “But we do know they’re going to have one of the best offensive lines in college football.

“Jeremiyah Love is probably the best back in college football, and I think the receiver — you’re going to see them, Jaden Greathouse, you saw toward the end of the playoff — really step up. So I do think you’re going to see a more dynamic version of the Notre Dame offense, even though you got a new quarterback, probably CJ Carr.”

Notre Dame will have a major test out of the gate when they face the University of Miami, who are ranked No. 10 in the Preseason Coaches’ Top 25, on August 31 at Hard Rock Stadium.
