Auburn lands 2026 four-star receiver Jase Mathews

Jase Mathews, 2026 four-star receiver, picks Auburn over other SEC schools including Ole Miss

The Auburn Tigers football program picked up a big win on Friday evening in recruiting for the 2026 class. Four-star wide receiver Jase Mathews announced he would be committing to the Auburn Tigers. Mathews is rated as the No. 2 wide receiver by Rivals. Mathews is the 12th player to commit to the Tigers for the 2026 recruiting class. He is from Leakesville, Mississippi where he plays high school football at Greene County.

As a junior in 2024, he caught 68 passes for 1,138 yards and 15 touchdowns in 10 games played. It seemed a big reason for Mathews picking Auburn was wide receivers coach Marcus Davis. He told On3 that “I feel a good connection with him”. Also, according to On3 Mathews has a good connection with head coach Hugh Freeze and offensive coordinator Derrick Nix. Both Freeze and Nix obviously have connections in the state of Mississippi due to their time at Ole Miss.

Mathews picked Auburn over other SEC schools LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. While selecting the team he would play for, he first put on the Ole Miss hat before putting on the Auburn hat to make his commitment. When he arrives on campus in 2026, he will do so with another Mississippi native. Quarterback Deuce Knight will be entering his second season with the Tigers. At that point Knight should be battling for the starting quarterback position. Auburn needed a win in recruiting and got that with Mathews’ commitment. Tigers’ fans should be very excited.
