Goal No. 15: LEADERSHIP.Everyone can set the example.
Redshirt Freshman | 6-3 | 222 lbs. | Kansas City, Missouri
Jayshawn Ross (b. Sept. 29, 2005) is an freakishly talented Kansas City-area defensive end/linebacker who transferred from Alabama. He has a lot to learn and some weight to gain but could be hard to keep off the field.
Ross earned his first collegiate snaps at Alabama in 2023 against Mercer as a linebacker, but he retained his redshirt after missing time early in the season due to thumb injury, transferring to K-State for the spring of 2025:
I was just ready to come back home. I realized that I was still a priority here on January 4. Yeah, January 4 it was. I was ready. I was ready to come home. That’s when I contacted Coach Buddy Wyatt and I shut down my recruiting. I knew I was home. I knew it was time to get to work.
K-State is attempting to turn him into a rush end, which may require adding more weight, and he will have a hard time breaking through a deep defensive end rotation this season, but I still predict we see him play a bit.
Ross prepped under head coach Andrew Lierman at Liberty High School North in the Kansas City metro, where he was rated the 132nd-best overall player in the Class of 2024 by On3, while he was No. 169 by 247Sports.
He also was rated the 13th-best weakside defensive end nationally by Rivals, the 15th-best edge defender by On3 and 16th-best outside linebacker by ESPN.
Ross earned first-team all-state honors as a senior from the Missouri Football Coaches Association after he posted 23 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and eight sacks during his senior campaign.
He was a finalist for the prestigious Simone Award as the top prep player in the Kansas City metro area.
Ross originally committed to Alabama over offers from Arkansas, Cal, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas…
