Oregon Ducks predicted to land in championship game by Josh Pate

The start of the 2025 college football season is a week away for the Oregon Ducks, and there is a wide range of predictions for Dan Lanning and his team. With a new-look roster that includes only four returning starters, some people are predicting that the Ducks will experience some regression from a year ago, when they finished 13-1 with a win in the Big Ten Conference Championship. However, others think that the talent on the roster will be enough to propel Oregon deep into the College Football Playoff.

After traveling to Eugene and watching the Ducks practice earlier this fall, On3’s Josh Pate is in the camp that thinks Oregon will find a lot of success this season. When predicting his College Football Playoff field for the year, Pate has Oregon seeded at No. 4, which means they would lose the Big Ten title game to Penn State, who is the No. 1 seed, according to Pate.

However, he does have the Ducks beating the Clemson Tigers in the quarterfinals, and then beating the Nittany Lions in the semifinal game, making it to the national championship, where they would face the No. 2 seed Alabama Crimson Tide.

Unfortunately, this is where Pate sees the Ducks’ run ending, with Kalen DeBoer and Alabama winning the championship.

While that would be a tough way for Oregon’s season to come to an end, especially at the hands of DeBoer once again, it would undoubtedly be a great year for Lanning and the Ducks.
