The college football season is upon us, and we have already had three Big 12 teams in action with Week 0 matchups.
But with most teams not kicking off this weekend, it is still the perfect time to dive into some conference-wide predictions from our Buffaloes Wire staff.
We have already given our Colorado-specific predictions, like offensive MVP, defensive MVP, record prediction, question marks, and some bold predictions.
Here are our Big 12 predictions, including offensive and defensive MVPs, top head coaches, championship game matchup and our 12-team College Football Playoff projection.
Big 12 Offensive MVP predictions
Griffin Dreifaldt: QB Avery Johnson, Kansas State, or QB Josh Hoover, TCU
Hoover threw for 27 touchdowns and nearly 4,000 yards last season, and TCU is being slept on this season. I expect Hoover to be one of the best QBs in the nation. Kansas State’s Johnson had some struggles in 2024, but the Wildcats only got better this offseason, and I believe that Johnson could have a special 2025 campaign with his dual-threat abilities
Jack Freeman: WR Jordyn Tyson, Arizona State
The former Buffalo was close to the best wide receiver in the Big 12 late last season, and he should pick up right where he left off. Returning with quarterback Sam Leavitt in what should be a pass-first offense, he’s got the chance to put up video game numbers in 2025. Tyson has an immaculate ability to come down with the ball at the point of attack and kill defenses with his relentless speed.
Charlie Strella: QB Sawyer Robertson, Baylor Bears
You’ll notice a theme with my selections, but I am a true believer in the Baylor Bears. Even if the Bears don’t win the conference, I still think Robertson will have a standout season. In 2024, he threw for more than 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns while only throwing eight interceptions. He could push…
