No. 18 Tennessee will kick off its 2025 football season Saturday versus Syracuse. Rankings reflect the US LBM Coaches Poll. Syracuse is receiving 16 votes.
Kickoff between the Vols and Orange is slated for noon EDT at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. ABC will televise the nonconference matchup.
Demetres Samuel Jr. enters his first season at Syracuse in 2025. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound freshman plays cornerback and wide receiver. He enrolled at Syracuse in January at 16 years old and will compete the entire season at 17.
Billy Tucker of ESPN ranked Samuel Jr. No. 8 as a top 10 freshman for the 2025 college football season. He reclassified from the class of 2026 to Syracuse’s 2025 recruiting class.
According to Syracuse, Samuel Jr. is the second-youngest player in college football this season, behind Auburn offensive lineman Kail Ellis who is 27 days younger. The Auburn center did not enroll early for spring practices.
Samuel Jr. was a four-star prospect from Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Florida.
