We visited our friend Mark Rogers for his Big Ten live show at The Voice of College Football on Thursday. We reviewed the proceedings at Big Ten football media days in Indianapolis, focusing naturally on USC and Lincoln Riley but also including analysis of Dan Lanning and Oregon.
It is fascinating to watch coaches take the podium at a mass-media event such as Big Ten media days. Some coaches were born to do this, others not, and some others grow into the role and don’t take themselves too seriously. How each coach chooses to handle this moment is not definitive of their identity and their coaching style, but it does open the door and give us a small look inside their personality and what makes them tick.
In our segment with Mark Rogers, we looked at the nuances involved in the national press corps’ distrust of Lincoln Riley’s ability to field a good defense at USC. We also talked about the idea of Lincoln Riley giving up play-calling to focus more on defense and the state of his whole roster, not just the offense:
