College football rankings: Where Iowa State sits in first preseason poll

On Monday, the USA TODAY US LBM Coaches Poll was released, marking the first poll of the 2024 college football season.

Did Iowa State football make the cut to be listed in the initial top 25?

Iowa State football will not open the 2024 season in the top 25, though the Cyclones were on the minds of some voters.

Coach Matt Campbell’s team was among those receiving votes in the preseason USA TODAY US LBM Coaches Poll. The Cyclones received 15 points in the preseason poll, tying them with Liberty for 10th-most among those outside the top-25.

Georgia earned the top spot in the poll while conference newcomer Utah was the top-ranked Big 12 team at No. 13. Kansas State and Oklahoma State come in at No. 17 and No. 18, respectively. Arizona is ranked 21st and Kansas is ranked No. 24 to give the league five teams in the top-25 to start the year.

The Cyclones went 7-6 with a Liberty Bowl berth a season ago, and they were picked sixth in the Big 12’s preseason poll. They open the season Aug. 31 at home against North Dakota.
