SW FL Week 7 Roundup: Naples, South, Immokalee, Gulf Coast, Gateway, Oasis, Dunbar notch wins

A roundup of Southwest Florida high school football games played on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024.

Naples 42, Fort Myers 6

Duane Coleman’s storied career with the Naples football team has been well documented.

Over two decades later, Shawn Simeon’s career is writing its own story. He joined Coleman in uncharted territory Friday night in a rivalry contest against Fort Myers.

The Toledo commit ran for 319 yards and two scores on just 21 attempts in what was a 42-6 blowout win over the Greenies. With Simeon’s second 300-yard performance in program history, he and Coleman are the only two running backs to eclipse that mark not once, but twice.

“Here’s what’s crazy about Shawn, he’s battling turf toe right now,” Martin said. “He’s limited on reps as it is in practice. He’s been in the offense and he’s done a lot of things, but still, players need reps. I don’t care if you’re in high school, college, or professional. You need reps in order to do things.

“It’s remarkable that he’s able to come out here, know the gameplan, be on a pitch count in practice all week, and be the second guy in program history to now have two games with 300 yards. I’ve always said it, he makes me look like a really good coach.”

Shawn Simeon #5 of the Naples High School football team gains yards during a game against Fort Myers High School at Fort Myers on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024. Naples won.

Simeon’s start was rough, going for 29 yards on six carries with a touchdown, but the rest of the way, he ran 15 times for 290 yards with another touchdown, gashing a Green Wave defense that had trouble defending the run the week prior against North Fort Myers.

“I was able to read their defense pretty fast after the first quarter,” Simeon said. “Once I realized what was going on, I adjusted to it. I found the open holes.”
