According to multiple reports, New Mexico State offensive line coach, run game coordinator and interim play-caller Andrew Mitchell has been hired as a co-offensive line coach at Oklahoma State.
It was first reported by 247Sports and later by ESPN’s Pete Thamel. At the time of writing, OSU has yet to release a formal statement confirming Mitchell’s hiring.
Per a source, Cooper Bassett is now headed to Oklahoma State. He’ll be one of the offensive line coaches, as the expectation is he’ll split duties. Mitchell has been coaching the Aggies’ offensive line since the 2022 season after being hired by former NM State coach Jerry Kill. He became the Aggies’ run game coordinator and earned the title of assistant head coach in 2024 after NM State coach Tony Sanchez succeeded Kill.
Mitchell was the Aggies’ interim play-caller during and after an investigation sparked by a Las Cruces Sun-News report on the over 150 racist, sexist and homophobic posts on former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tyler Wright’s X account, formerly Twitter, that began on Sept. 27.
After Wright was dismissed on Oct. 11, Mitchell remained the interim play-caller. NM State scored 40 points in Mitchell’s first game as the interim play-caller against New Mexico on Sept. 28 and followed up with five of its best yardage outputs of the season.
Mitchell coached a successful offensive line at NM State this year.
