Matthew Scott is familiar with facing Edinboro University’s football team.
The West Allegheny graduate was a defensive lineman for Indiana (University) of Pennsylvania from 2004-07.
Now, Scott will experience what it’s like coaching the Crimson Hawks’ PSAC West Division rival.
Edinboro announced Scott’s hire as its next football coach on Tuesday. He succeeds Jake Nulph, who last month resigned to become the athletic director for Kiski Area High School in Leechburg.
Nulph was in charge of the Fighting Scots for their last five seasons.
Edinboro University hired Matthew Scott, seen here as the defensive coordinator for the University of New Haven (Connecticut), as its new football coach on Tuesday.
Scott returns to western Pennsylvania football competition after six years with the staff for the University of New Haven (Connecticut). He last served as defensive coordinator for the Chargers, a traditional NCAA Division II power.
“My family and I are so excited for the opportunity to join the Edinboro family and lead this program,” Scott said in an Edinboro news release. “I’m ready to take on the responsibility that comes with leading the Edinboro football program, and can’t wait to get to work with our young men and help them reach new heights.”
Scott’s coaching career has spanned the NCAA. Before Division II New Haven, he also served on staffs for Division III Susquehanna University and Division I University of Albany (New York).
“We’re excited to add Matt to our staff and for him to lead the Edinboro football program,” athletic director Katherine Robbins said. “Matt brings extensive football knowledge, passion for the game and a track record of success in our region that will benefit our student-athletes on and off the field.”
Edinboro will formally introduce Scott during a news conference to be announced….
