The college football coaching world saw major changes in the last few years. Nick Saban retired and Jim Harbaugh returned to the NFL. Texas A&M let go of Jimbo Fisher and North Carolina parted ways with Mack Brown.
There are only three remaining coaches with a national title ring: Georgia’s Kirby Smart, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, and Ohio State’s Ryan Day.
Today, we’ll look at the five active coaches with the most wins entering 2025. Despite all the change, some veterans remain in place. LSU has one of those guys in Brian Kelly. Kelly’s 195 FBS wins rank No. 2 among active head coaches, though if you count his time at Grand Valley State, he’s the winningest coach still working.
Here are the five active coaches with the most FBS wins.
5. Kyle Whittingham, Utah — 167 wins

Whittingham is 65 years old, and Utah already named defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley the coach in waiting. But Whittingham is still kicking it and plans to return in 2025.
Whittingham took over the program after Urban Meyer left in 2004. Since then, Whittingham continued his winning ways. Whittingham has six 10-win campaigns, including a 13-0 season in 2008.
Before Whittingham, Utah only had three ranked finishes. Under Whitt, the Utes have appeared in eight final AP Polls.
4. Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State — 169 wins
