Oklahoma’s gone undefeated at home just twice since 2020: the 2023 season and the 2021 season. But that hasn’t changed the aura surrounding Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. It’s one of the best venues in college football and has a chance to significantly impact Oklahoma’s 2025 season.
Despite some tough losses at home in recent years, 247Sports Cory Nagle still believes Memorial Stadium is one of the toughest places to play.
Oklahoma dominated the Big 12 for years, which may have shaped this perception. However, even the Sooners’ worst team in nearly three decades managed to deliver a decisive upset against Alabama in their SEC debut campaign. Before last season, they had lost just twice at home inside Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium since 2021. Heading into the 2025 season, Oklahoma is confident it has made crucial adjustments, particularly offensively, with new coordinator Ben Arbuckle and prized transfer quarterback John Mateer from Washington State, to be more competitive in the SEC. Though the intimidation factor has waned over the years dating back to the Lincoln Riley era, Oklahoma has long had one of the more difficult places to play in college football this millennium. There was an element to that in 2024 when the Sooners faithful showed up and showed out for their first SEC showdown against Tennessee and created an electric atmosphere for their upset of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Owen Field faithful helped Oklahoma’s defense create problems for opposing offenses. The bigger problem was the offense couldn’t help out in the loss to Tennessee or gave the game away early in the loss to South Carolina.
