Report: Oregon’s Dan Lanning gets big raise to put him among highest paid NCAA coaches

Oregon football coach Dan Lanning has agreed to an amended six-year contract with a significant raise, per reports.

Yahoo Sports reported Thursday morning Lanning and UO agreed to an amended contract that increases his annual pay by $2 million, with the fully-guaranteed deal now averaging nearly $11 million annually.

The reported salary would put the 38-year-old head coach within the top five highest-paid coaches in the NCAA, according to USA Today’s salary database.

Lanning’s buyout reportedly remains unchanged from the previous deal. He would owe Oregon $20 million if he left before his contract expires in Eugene.

Lanning is 35-6 in three seasons at Oregon and guided the Ducks to the No. 1 overall seed in the College Football Playoff last season before losing in the quarterfinals to eventual national champion Ohio State.

The new contract needs approval by the UO’s Board of Trustees. A meeting is scheduled for Friday.

Lanning announced promotions and additions to his 2025-26 coaching staff Wednesday, with several changes following departures from key staff, including receivers coach Junior Adams to the Dallas Cowboys.

Lanning also announced promotions for staffers Rashad Wadood, Kamran Araghi and Koa Ka’ai.
