LSU offensive coordinator Joe Sloan is entering his second season calling plays for the Tigers. Sloan joined Brian Kelly’s staff as QBs coach in 2022. When the OC job came open after 2023, Kelly opted to promote Sloan, not looking far for LSU’s next offensive coordinator.
Sloan met with the media earlier this week and offered his thoughts on how he’d improve heading into year two.
“I think the biggest thing is we have to make sure as on offense that we can attack people in multiple ways. Different defenses and what we will see call for some different things,” Sloan said.
Sloan says LSU needs to ensure it has balance on the offensive side of the football.
“At times last year, maybe there were some things that we could get better at. And I think we’ve attacked those things in the offseason, and that’s the big thing,” Sloan said.
LSU’s offense was one-dimensional on occasions in 2024. LSU was No. 6 in college football, with 41.1 pass attempts per game. LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier pressed at times, having to carry the entire offense. Nussmeier is one of the most talented passers in the sport, but LSU won’t contend for a title without a strong run game.
USC was the only Power Four offense to average over 40 passing attempts per game and rank top 30 in overall yards per play. You need balance to be efficient. Sloan is confident LSU will have that in 2025.
