Former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Zeed Haynes has entered the NCAA transfer portal for the second time in his college football career. Haynes, a former four-star recruit, spent the 2024 season with the Syracuse Orange.
Haynes started in Syracuse’s first two games of the 2024 season before he missed the rest of the year due to personal family reasons. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound receiver impressed in both his starts with Syracuse. He amassed eight catches for 97 yards and one rush for 11 yards in two games.
Haynes, who is from Philadelphia, could be looking to move closer to home. Haynes recorded one catch for 20 yards in four appearances as a freshman at Georgia in 2023. He followed former Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown, who is now the Orange’s head coach, to Syracuse.
Haynes still has a lot of potential. He is an excellent route runner and has at least three years of eligibility left. However, his football career may be over according to Fran Brown.
“He’s in school,” Brown said in March. “He’s getting a degree. He ain’t playing right now. He ain’t playing no more. He going to chill. He put the cleats up. But he’s going to dominate the work world. He’s a hell of a guy. Great kid. We’re excited for him.”
It is unclear what is next for Haynes and why he would no longer play football. Haynes along with two of his Georgia teammates in wide receiver Jackson Meeks and offensive lineman Joshua Miller all transferred to Syracuse after the 2023 college football season.
Meeks had a career year with the Orange last year. He posted 78 receptions for 1,021 yards and scored seven touchdowns.
Miller appeared in one game with Syracuse last season. He briefly entered the transfer portal after the 2024 season before electing to return to Syracuse.
