SOUTH BEND —Senior Day at Notre Dame Stadium just became a lot more interesting.

Former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli announced his commitment to Syracuse on Wednesday via social media. The Orange visit the Irish on Nov. 22, and there’s a good chance the graduate transfer will be at the controls for the visitors.

Angeli, who departs with two years of remaining eligibility, could see his former team in a return engagement at the JMA Wireless Dome in 2026. The date of that matchup for the ACC scheduling partners won’t be known until early next year.

Angeli took the final four snaps of Notre Dame’s 2022 win at Syracuse in relief of Drew Pyne but did not attempt a pass.

Ohio State grad transfer Kyle McCord led the nation in passing yards per game (368) and total yards (4,779) last season while throwing 34 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions.

Angeli, a three-star recruit from Bergen Catholic High School in northern New Jersey, played for Vito Campanile at the traditional power. Nunzio Campanile, Vito’s older brother, is entering his third season as an assistant coach at Syracuse.

The elder Campanile serves as offensive associate head coach/quarterbacks for head coach Fran Brown. Campanile previously coached tight ends at Syracuse (2023) and for five seasons at Rutgers (2018-22).
