Tariq Boney commits to Michigan football

Michigan football just had great success with a 6-foot-1 edge rusher, perhaps getting another, the Wolverines would see similar success?

Josaiah Stewart was in Ann Arbor for two years and was drafted in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Thus, the maize and blue have looked to seek his eventual replacement via recruiting.

One top target isn’t particularly highly rated in 2026 Washington (D.C.) St. John’s three-star edge rusher Tariq Boney. Hailing from the same high school as former Wolverines safety Quinten Johnson, Boney is rated the No. 937 player in the country according to the On3 Industry Ranking, but he has offers from Auburn, Georgia, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Washington, Wisconsin, and others.

He ended up committing to Michigan football over Tulane and West Virginia.

Boney joins wide receiver Jaylen Pile, cornerback Brody Jennings, quarterback Brady Smigiel, and offensive lineman Bear McWhorter in the class.

Ironically, Michigan football’s current starting edge rusher, TJ Guy, was rated No. 937 nationally as a recruit according to the 247Sports Composite. The Wolverines took just one edge rusher this past cycle in five-star Nate Marshall, who flipped to and from Auburn.
