Wisconsin football landed a commitment from Central Michigan transfer offensive lineman Davis Heinzen on Saturday.

Heinzen, a Manitowoc, Wisconsin, native, started 36 games for Central Michigan over the past three seasons, the majority of which at left tackle. He originally joined the Chippewas as a three-star recruit in the class of 2020, ranked as the No. 2,095 overall player in the country, No. 105 tight end and No. 17 recruit from the state of Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-5 lineman joins a Wisconsin team with a need at left tackle after a spring practice injury to projected starter Kevin Heywood. Heinzen figures to compete for that starting job with returning starting left guard Joe Brunner, former Vanderbilt transfer Leyton Nelson and redshirt freshman Emerson Mandell.

Heinzen, who has just one year of eligibility remaining, is the Badgers’ fourth transfer addition of the spring, following tight end Lance Mason, long snapper Nick Levy and quarterback Hunter Simmons. It’s easy to predict the lineman to be the most impactful, given his experience at left tackle and Wisconsin’s dire need at the position. The position battle will be the primary story of fall…
