Newbury Park High’s Brady Smigiel committed to the University of Michigan — Tom Brady’s alma mater — via social media on Saturday morning.
“That was their recruiting pitch,” Smigiel said. “We need another Brady in the building.”
The commitment completed Smigiel’s second ride on the national recruiting rollercoaster.
After decommitting from Florida State in January, the five-star recruit, who led Newbury Park to the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 championship last fall, considered South Carolina, UCLA and Washington before deciding on the Wolverines.
“I want to go to Michigan,” Smigiel said after wrapping up Newbury Park’s first spring practice Monday afternoon at Panther Stadium.
“I want to play football at Michigan. I love Ann Arbor. I love those fans. I love how you play in front of 110,000 people. I love the playbook. I love the way they develop their players. They just do things the right way there.”
