There will always be naysayers, but it’s hard to argue with a 70-10 record, multiple Big Ten Championships, as well as the 2025 College Football Playoff national championship. He’s had his critics, but Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has persevered through it all and found a way to navigate through the ever-changing and tumultuous waters of a new college football landscape.
Of course, any coach will tell you that having the right players will take you farther than anything else. Year after year, the Buckeyes reload, and Day has built on the foundation that Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer laid before him. But neither of his predecessors had to deal with NIL and the transfer portal, something that is driving many coaches away from the college game. But Day has seemed to find the secret sauce and he shared it recently during a press conference.
When it comes to the kind of players Ohio State is looking for, Day has some specifics in mind. It’s all about culture, which is something that we hear over and over again from recruits who visit the program and those already wearing the Scarlet and Gray. There’s a reason the Buckeyes didn’t lose a single scholarship player during the spring transfer portal.
