Jackson State football has added a key piece to its wide receiver room.
Shemar Savage announced his commitment to JSU on May 4 in a social media post on X, formerly Twitter. Savage was a two-year starter at SWAC foe Prairie View A&M.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior wideout began his career at Mt. San Antonio College before transferring to Prairie View A&M in 2023. He had 913 receiving yards, 47 receptions and six touchdowns in 22 games during his two years with the Panthers.
Savage joins JSU at a critical position. The Tigers have lost three wide receivers in the transfer portal who were starters in 2024. Rico Powers, Fabian McCray and, recently, Isaiah Spencer, who committed to Virginia Tech.
JSU added its second wide receiver from the transfer portal in former Mississippi Valley State wideout Nate Rembert, who signed with JSU on Feb. 5.
Savage joins a JSU team that comes off its first Celebration Bowl win, 28-7 over South Carolina State in 2024, and an offensive unit that ranked first in the SWAC last season.
