Former Texas A&M RB Tra Carson promoted to New Boston HS (TX) OC

Watching former Texas A&M football players grow in their respective careers once their playing days are over is an enjoyable experience, especially knowing the mental toll of leaving the game, which affects every player. On Saturday, it was revealed that former Texas A&M running back Tra Carson, who was a star for the Aggies for three seasons (2013-2015) including QB Johnny Manziel’s final season with the program.

After transferring from Oregon, Carson quickly worked his way up the depth chart, but was a productive red zone option during the 2013 season, finishing with 329 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. During the 2014 campaign, Carson’s role expanded, hitting the half-century mark with 589 rushing yards, five touchdowns, and 659 yards from scrimmage.

During his final 2015 season, Carson served as A&M’s offensive focus as the program’s lead back, finishing his Aggies career in style with 1,348 yards from scrimmage, including 1,165 yards on the ground and eight combined touchdowns. While he certainly did enough to be selected in the later rounds of the 2016 NFL draft, Carson signed a UDFA deal with the Cincinnati Bengals before signing with the Green Bay Packers, and, finally, a brief stint with the Detroit Lions.

Since then, Carson has entered the coaching ranks at the High School level, and has been promoted as New Boston (TX) High School’s new offensive coordinator. At the young age of 32, Carson is certainly rising in the coaching ranks and will be a name to watch in the coming years.
