Georgia baseball coach Wes Johnson signed a contract extension through 2031 with an increased compensation package, according to a release from the athletic department on Wednesday.
The former LSU baseball pitching coach took the role in June 2023 after one season in Baton Rouge, which ended in a national championship win. He led the Bulldogs to top-five SEC regular season finishes in each of his first two years.
Following four years as the Minnesota Twins’ pitching coach, Johnson led the development of a pitching staff that included Paul Skenes and Ty Floyd. Eight LSU pitchers were selected in the 2023 MLB Draft, two of whom were in the first two rounds.
Georgia marks Johnson’s fourth stint in the SEC after stops at Mississippi State in 2016, followed by two years with Arkansas. He lost to the Tigers 9-1 in the 2024 SEC Tournament, but the two sides didn’t face off this year. They could meet in the 2025 SEC Tournament championship.
Georgia was one-and-done in the SEC Tournament as Oklahoma managed to quiet the Bulldogs’ explosive offense, but Johnson has the roster to make a run to Omaha.
