Has Happy learned how to putt? If Lincoln Riley has solved longstanding problems, USC should soon take off.
Across the country, college football spring practices have wrapped up. With the spring transfer portal window also winding down, attention has now shifted to summer workouts and the build up to fall camps.
In a recent story, Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports gave one spring overreaction for each Big Ten team. Here is what he had to say about USC:
”Lincoln Riley has figured it out: Last year, Riley made sure to overhaul the defensive staff,” Fornelli wrote. “This offseason, he’s gone to work reconfiguring USC’s entire recruiting apparatus, as well as other stuff behind the scenes that many other elite programs have always had, but, for whatever reasons, USC was behind on. He also has a returning starter at QB and one of the more talented receiving rooms in the country. Nobody will be shocked if USC is good this year. Of course, nobody will be shocked if they’re mediocre, either. That’s the one problem Riley truly needs to fix.”
USC fans are certainly hoping that Fornelli’s theory is in fact not an overreaction, and Riley really has figured things out at USC. After going just 15-11 over the past two seasons, the Trojans are desperate for significant improvement on the field, beginning this fall.
