Ben Johnson discusses Bears QBs adjusting to new coaches

The Chicago Bears have undergone plenty of changes this offseason, the biggest coming with the hiring of Ben Johnson as head coach. Johnson will be tasked with developing quarterback Caleb Williams and getting this team back to its winning ways.

Although Williams had a productive and successful rookie season, as an individual, the team struggled amid. 10-game losing streak and 5-12 record that led to a new coaching staff and new roster additions.

With OTAs underway, Johnson discussed how the quarterbacks — Williams, Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum and Austin Reed — will need to adjust to the new coaching staff in place with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle and quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett.

“Everyone is different. I’ve been around a number of coordinators, a number of quarterback coaches,” Johnson said. “I would say that my style is kind of a combination of everything that I’ve been around and I’ve come to learn and love and appreciate. There’s a process that I believe in, that we believe in, as an offensive staff, that we’re adhering to this springtime, and we’re going to stay true to that, and how we’re going to develop that position in particular. Those guys are doing a great job, they’re working hard right now.”

The development of Williams will be essential to the Bears’ success in 2025, and that puts big responsibility on not only the second-year quarterback but also the coaches who will work with him. It’s going to be a process not only for the new-look roster, which has seen several changes and additions on both offense and defense, but also for Johnson’s new coaching staff.
