Ranking projected starting QBs after spring season

We are back in the middle of the college football offseason, with spring games and open practices from the last month behind us and another couple of months full of predictions and previews staring down the barrel. While all of the preview work we did leading into the spring season still holds, it needs some updating after what we saw from teams in the Big Ten, many of whom held spring games or some sort of scrimmage.

We start with the quarterbacks in the Big Ten. It will be an interesting year for passers in the conference. While some veterans return for a final year at the college level, other teams, such as Oregon, Ohio State, and Michigan, will usher in new starters to take over the program. There will also be a number of highly contested quarterback battles that started this spring and will be finalized this offseason.

Which Big Ten teams should feel the most confident in their signal-callers going into the summer and, ultimately, the 2025 season? We broke it down and ranked them, projecting the 18 starters for every team in the conference.

18. Ryan Browne — Purdue Boilermakers

Career Stats:9 games, 636 yards, 4 TD, 4 INT // 71 rushes, 241 yards

Previous QB Ranking: Unranked

Analysis: Being asked to lead this Purdue offense to a semblance of success is an uphill battle for any quarterback, to be sure. Ryan Browne has had some limited experience, but he hasn’t done much with the opportunity to impress, with as many INTs as he has TDs. It wasn’t hard to rank him at the bottom after spring ball.

17. Drake Lindsey — Minnesota Golden Gophers

Career Stats:3 games, 50 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT

Previous QB Ranking: Unranked

Analysis: Max Brosmer was a very solid player for Minnesota in 2024, but it will be Drake Lindsey’s time to take over this year, and there are some understandable questions about how well he can fill in….
