The SEC is home to some of the best helmets and most notable uniforms in college football. The SEC is now home to 16 teams. We think the SEC added two of the best helmets in the country with the additions of Oklahoma and Texas.
Helmets are one of the most notable pieces of a team’s uniform. Teams no longer wear leather helmets, so each SEC team has a unique helmet that serves as an opportunity for a team to amplify their respective brand. We think some teams are doing better jobs that others.
Below we rank our favorite SEC helmets from worst to first. Here we are sticking with the school’s classic, traditional look as opposed to alternate helmets.

SEC helmet rankings from worst to first
16. Vanderbilt Commodores
We don’t think there’s an awful helmet in the SEC. However, Vanderbilt’s gold and black helmet seems to change quite a bit and it is just not our cup of tea. The Commodores recently updated their “V” logo.
15. Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M and Mississippi State both essentially have the same primary helmet with different logos. We prefer Mississippi State’s logo over Texas A&M’s.
14. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State recently redesigned their helmet, which is a major upgrade for the Bulldogs. We like the cursive “State” logo much more than Mississippi State’s old helmets.
13. Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky has several different alternate helmets including a pretty sweet chrome helmet that the Wildcats debuted in 2014. We like the Wildcats’ white helmets more than their blue helmets.
12. Auburn Tigers
Auburn’s “AU” logo is a good logo, but the Tigers’ color scheme is not our favorite. Auburn’s helmet is a classic and it is easily identifiable, but it has some step competition in the SEC.
