The Florida State Seminoles have added another commitment to #Tribe26, and it’s a blue-chip wideout from a very familiar school in South Florida.
Brandon Bennett is a 6’0”, 170 pound wide receiver who plays for American Heritage, former home of DB coach Pat Surtain and incoming freshman Zae Thomas. He is considered the 218th best player in the country by 247Composite (33rd best wide receiver, 34th best player in FL).
Florida State beat out offers from two dozen other schools for Bennett, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Colorado Buffaloes, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, Miami Hurricanes, Michigan Wolverines, Missouri Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, Ole Miss Rebels, Penn State Nittany Lions, Syracuse Orange, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Wisconsin Badgers.
Bennett has deceptive speed and a smooth running style, often blowing past defensive backs who underestimate his acceleration. I like his ability to make adjustments on the fly and he has very good hands. Good route runner and can keep a defense honest as a deep threat. He’s likely to factor into the return game and has enough wiggle to make defenders miss. He’s going to need to bulk up to around 185 to avoid getting jammed at the line, but I think he will be a consistent contributor and someone who profiles as a nice weapon and has starter potential.
Bennett helped American Heritage to the 4A championship last season, hauling in 24 passes for 509 yards (21.2 yards per catch average) and seven touchdowns. He averaged 34.8 yards per kickoff return as well.
