Three-star recruit David Aboya has verbally committed to play football for Southern Miss.Aboya, who excelled as both a receiver and defensive back, chose Southern Miss over 11 other Division I offers.

A second Milton football player has announced his verbal commitment.

David Aboya, a three-star recruit who excelled on both sides of the ball, posted on social media on June 24 that he has committed to Southern Miss. After being recruited by a number of schools to play wide receiver or defensive back, it looks like he’ll stay on the offensive side of the ball for the Golden Eagles.

Aboya posted both a graphic and a video to announce his commitment on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“CRIB TALK,” Aboya posted on the social media site, referring to his anticipated collegiate home.

Aboya had seen a huge recruiting boost in the spring, getting on plenty of radars from Division I coaches. With the hiring of head coach Ronnie Douglas who brought in Ryan Vandervort as his offensive coordinator, who has plenty of college connections, Aboya’s recruiting went from nothing to “absolutely blowing up,” Douglas said in the spring season.

He chose the Golden Eagles over 11 other Division I offers, including: Pitt, Navy, Syracuse, Army, West Virginia, West Georgia, Samford, Liberty, Louisiana, Arkansas State and South Alabama. Aboya had also received an offer from hometown UWF.

Aboya, who was offered by Southern Miss on May 7, went to the Down South Showcase, a mega camp, hosted by the Golden Eagles on June 5, where plenty of Division I of coaches – Southern Miss included – got a look at him.
