IHSAA football sectionals: Tri-West defeats Cascade 37-35
Tri-West defeats Cascade 37-35 in sectional play on Friday, November 1, 2024.
Jack Sorgi is not afraid to be a trendsetter.
The 6-4, 200-pound junior Tri-West quarterback committed to the University of Louisville on Thursday, three weeks after receiving an offer from coach Jeff Brohm and the Cardinals. He is the first player to commit to Louisville in the 2027 recruiting class.
Sorgi, the son of former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Jim Sorgi, attended a camp at Louisville earlier this month, leading to the offer. It was Sorgi’s first scholarship offer.
As a sophomore, Sorgi completed 59.2% of his passes for 1,729 yards and 19 touchdowns with four interceptions for Tri-West, which finished 8-5 and won a Class 3A sectional championship. Sorgi, also a standout baseball player, ran for 225 yards and four TDs.
Jim Sorgi works on Tri-West’s staff as an assistant. Jim, who played at Wisconsin in college, was a sixth round pick of the Colts in 2004 and went on to be a backup for Peyton Manning through the 2009 season.
“He’s super helpful,” Jackson said last season of having his father on the coaching staff. “He sees everything on the field. He talks me through stuff, even in practice. Not only me, but the whole team. Offense and defense. Everybody asks him questions.”
Brohm’s offenses as a head coach at Western Kentucky, Purdue and Louisville have traditionally featured high-powered offenses. Louisville was 9-4 last season, ranking eighth in the country in scoring offense and 13th in yards per game. Quarterback Tyler Shough was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the draft.
