Rutgers Football Set To Face Four AP Preseason Top 25 Teams This Fall

The AP Top 25 preseason poll was released at noon on Monday, sparking excitement among college football fans nationwide. With the release of the poll, 25 teams now have a number next to their name. Among those are several in the Big Ten conference, four of which Rutgers will face this season.

The highest-ranked Big Ten team is Penn State, which is ranked second nationally. This may come off as a surprise to some, but the Nittany Lions return a lot of production, including quarterback Drew Allar, their running back tandem of Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton, bring in three transfer portal receivers, and return many members of their standout defense on all three levels.

On top of all of that, their offensive line projects among the top of the Big Ten, while the defense adds coordinator Jim Knowles from the Buckeyes. Fans in State College are gearing up for one of the most anticipated seasons in program history, and the media agrees with the hype. The Nittany Lions will visit Piscataway in the last game of the regular season on November 29th, giving Rutgers a chance to try and play spoiler on Senior Day.

Right behind Penn State is the reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes, ranked third in the nation. The Buckeyes replace a lot of production, starting with the quarterback position. Former five-star recruit Julian Sayin is expected to take over at quarterback, with the Buckeyes also expected to start fresh faces at the running back, tight end, and some of its offensive and defensive line positions.

Some of the top returning players for Ohio State are sensational wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and safety Caleb Downs, with Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss expected to create another talented receiving trio.
