Georgia loses out on No. 3 RB in country to SEC rival

Georgia has been on a recruiting hot streak as of late, but they couldn’t land a key running back target. Four-star running back Ezavier Crowell recently announced he’s committing to the Alabama Crimson Tide, choosing them over Georgia, Auburn and Texas.

Crowell is a four-star running back from the class of 2026. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound rusher plays high school football for Jackson High School in Jackson, Alabama.

Through two seasons with Jackson, Crowell has amassed 3,701 yards and 56 touchdowns on 334 carries. He has shown potential in the receiving game as well, catching 20 passes for 470 yards and six touchdowns in those two years.

He is ranked as the No. 2 running back and No. 33 overall prospect in the nation, along with being the No. 3 recruit Alabama, per 247Sports.

It’s only fitting Crowell committed to Alabama, the most well-respected football program in the state. 247Sports logged a predicted Crowell to commit to Alabama, and according to On3’s visit counter, Crowell visited Alabama nine times in total, four times more than any other school.

It also comes as little surprise for Georgia fans. Four-star running back Jae Lamar, who committed to the Bulldogs on June 25, is considered Georgia’s running back of the future. With the Bulldogs losing out on elite running backs from the class of 2025, the door is open for Lamar to play a big role in Georgia’s backfield in 2026 or 2027.

Georgia is also in the running for five-star running back Savion Hiter, who is the No. 1 running back in the class of 2026. He will choose among Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Tennessee.

The Bulldogs are also closing in on Derrek Cooper, the No. 3 running back in this class. He took an official visit to Georgia on June 15 and was briefly committed to the Bulldogs around this time last year.
